Best of Mo'Wax 12's - The DJ Shadow Collection

Let's close out 2007 with something that's well worth a listen to as the clock ticks down to a new year. Stumbled across this last night over at our good neighbors spot: Turbo City. Don't know if it's an offical release, but it does contain some rare versions of tracks that I don't even have. Get it while you can. Happy New Year! Peace!

Mongo Santamaria "Soul Bag" (1968)

Spent Christmas morning with the family, then had to head out to my mom's about noon. After we passed out the gifts, I remembered that she had quite the vinyl collection back in the day; I only remembered that because I always had to help lug them around every time we moved. Anyways, I happened to find a lot of things that you wouldn't think to find in a crate full of old records owned by a 61 year old divorcee/widow from the state of Texas. After spending some time delving through the remnants of her collection, I only came to one final conclusion: mama's got soul... Okay, so this is a nice one, and except for a few unrepairable nicks & scratches through-out, it plays pretty damn good. Bernard Purdie drums, Hubert Laws flute, Luis Gasca trumpet, and Mongo on percussions; need I say more!?! Enjoy this. I know I did. Back soon. Peace!

Grant Green "The Final Comdown OST" (1971)

I fell in love with this album cover the 1st time I laid eyes on it, and have been looking for it ever since. Found it on Vinyl, although it is a repress, but still beats the hell outta spending mad cash for the import CD. Anyways, if you love Bluesy, smooth, Jazz-funk by Grant Green, then this is your album. If you love emotion evoking soundtrack music in Quincy Jones vain, then this is your album. Grab it up. Back soon. Peace!

And wouldn't you know, I found it, over at what seems to me like the holy grail for all you "Jazz Fusion" lovers out there: My Jazz World. He's got some great stuff out there; think I spent at least four hours canibalizing his collection. Pay him a visit... And a donation. Back soon. Peace!

I guess when this was originally released, folks had a hard time wrapping their heads around the mixture of music & vocals; I can't understand why. This shit's hot! Thanks to "Sunny Side of the Street" for bringing this one to light for all of us. Laters.

Yo! This is one of my wife's favourite artist, and she's dope. Hard-core soulfull voice, hard-core classic Jazz vocal. And "Hotter Than A Mosquitos Tweeter" is one of the dopest songs I've ever heard. This is a CD Rip, and the packaging is a Vinyl replica from Germany, and well worth the money I spent on it. Dusty Groove America says it's "One of the greatest Quincy Jones albums of all time!" And they might be right, in terms of Jazz instrumentations. Nowhere near as funky as his previous Soundtrack outings, and personally, nowhere near as hot as "Gula Matari" (my personal favourite), but definately essential "Q" listening, and an awesome precursor to joints like "Smackwater Jack."
